Pathology Imaging Laboratory
This 600 square foot biomedical imaging laboratory is located in the Department of
Pathology. There is a Roche Image Analysis Pathology Workstation which includes a high
resolution CCD color camera (Kontron) attached to an Olympus microscope and a 486 DX
computer with an ImageManagerTM software package. There are several Macintosh Centris 650
computers. Morphometrics is performed on a Bioquant system. A Zeiss laser scan microscope
(410 LSM) is used for 3-D tissue imaging. A Zeiss photoscope III with HOB hg
epifluorescence and a Zeiss fluorescence microscope with halogen epifluorescence are used
for immunofluorescence. There is a JEOL 100 CX electron microscope with scanning and EDAX
capabilities in an electron microscopy facility. A Zeiss inverted video microscope is used
for real-time cell motion analyses.
Specimen Preparation Laboratory
This laboratory houses the first production Ventana Medical systems (Model 320ES)
automated immunostainer/in situ hybridization instrument. This instrument is a
kinetic-mode, electronically driven in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry
instrument with a capacity for 40 assays per 1 to 3 hour period. The equipment can be used
to optimize tissue section preparation for video imaging.
